Test your SHPT knowledge – take the SHPT Challenge

1 June 2020

How up to date is your understanding of the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism
(SHPT) in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease
(ND-CKD) patients?

Find out right now by taking the online SHPT Challenge.

Available at SHPTchallenge.com, the SHPT Challenge will give you the opportunity to test your understanding of the pathogenesis, prevalence and treatment of SHPT in ND-CKD patients.

After visiting the website, you will be able to explore four different patient cases, each one providing different challenges.

As you progress through each case, you will be asked questions about disease management, along with other questions concerning SHPT, chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD–MBD), SHPT treatments and Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines.

By the end of the experience, you will have covered and tested your understanding of a variety of important topics and concepts, including the:

  • Pathogenesis of both SHPT and CKD–MBD
  • Prevalence of SHPT in CKD patients
  • Medical complications associated with uncontrolled SHPT
  • Importance of diagnosing and treating SHPT early
  • Unmet needs in SHPT treatment, including the limitations of current treatment options, such as nutritional vitamin D, active vitamin D (AVD) and AVD analogues
  • Goal of SHPT treatment
  • Characteristics of the optimal approach to treating SHPT
  • KDIGO guidelines on the management of SHPT and CKD–MBD

The SHPT Challenge was first featured at an interactive booth at the 2019 European Renal Association–European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA–EDTA) Congress, where it proved very popular. It's now online for all to benefit.

Test your SHPT knowledge right now by taking the SHPT Challenge.
